IL-Sen, IL-Gov: Statewide Recruitment Thread

No one likes Blago, but Blago doesn’t seem to care. So who will run against him in the 2010 Democratic primary? And who should run against him?

And speaking of Blagojevich, soon he will appoint a replacement for Barack Obama in the United States Senate. A lot depends on who exactly he selects, of course, but do you see any notable Republicans taking a stab at the seat in 2010? Mark Kirk, perhaps?

  1. Pick Lisa Madigan for Senate, and so far it looks like he won’t, she should primary him in 2010. Unlike Blago, Madigan’s not corrupt and she can actually win. Meanwhile, I’m still crossing my fingers that Blago picks Jan Schakowsky for Senate. But if he doesn’t, I’m okay if he picks someone like Luis Guiterrez or another Congresscritter whose name does NOT end with a “Jr.” (hint hint).

  2. Seem like obvious choices for a primary challenge to Blago. I find it a little unusual that so many are gung-ho about Madigan and then complain about Nepotism in a Delaware thread or about Chicago-machine politics. You guys are aware that Madigan has benefitted greatly from these two things? Her dad is the Speaker of the IL House of Representatives. Mayor Daly is number one on the pecking order of Chicago Machine Politicians and while number 2 may not be close, Madigan is probably number two.

For the Senate seat, I’ve made my preference for Jesse Jackson Jr. known. But James I think one thing you mentioned that is absolutely correct is that this choice should be made with the assumption that Mark Kirk will run in 2010. There are only 2 IL Republicans that could win statewide, and Jim Edgar is out of politics.
